Rest In Peace Astro Van

Here is a picture of our old Astro van. The graffitti is courtesty of some of my son's friends last summer. It's a 1992 that we bought used back in 1996- nearly 12 years ago. We paid 10 thousand for it and have driven it to death. It has 193,000 miles on it- original engine and transmission. We've driven it to California twice, Denver once, St. George, Idaho, and to Alberta, Canada at least 15 times or more. It has transported kids to school and boys to scout camp. It has never been very flashy or pretty, but it's certainly done it's job.

I know that Consumer Reports rates this van as pretty bad, but we've had to do very few repairs on it. Mostly just upkeep stuff. Sure, the last few years it's seemed like it might fall apart if you drive it too fast, but it was paid for. We drove it with a sense of noble self-sacrifice.

Two summers ago, we bought a new van-much nicer, a 2005 Toyota Sienna. We gave the old Astro to our 16-year-old. He would love something flashier, but was glad to have anything to drive. Unfortunately, he has driven it to the ground. It will no longer start- we think the engine has seized. No oil will do that. Add it's other problems to that, and it looks like we will not be resurrecting it. Now the problem is: how do we get rid of it?
